Strategist: Assembly of Iron
Well, I did earn
The Siege of Ulduar
, did I not? Made an entry for each one of the Siege bosses, that I did. Made me wonder how adequate the term "siege" is, when the only Expedition forces are in the base camp and around Razorscale - looks we've been
storming
Ulduar, not besieging it. But that's just my thoughts :)
So this time it's the
Assembly of Iron
. What many people call '
the Iron Council
'. The three Iron Generals represent each of the iron races in the Iron Army (they also love iron).
Steelbreaker
, the biggest and physically strongest of them all, is an Iron Giant with colossal strength.
Runemaster Molgeim
is an Iron Vrykul, who has mastered the art of rune magic.
Stormcaller Brundir
is an Iron Dwarf with a master's touch in the lightning magic, who hates being mocked for his height.
The Assembly of Iron has taken residence in the left wing of the Antechamber of Ulduar, j

Strategist: XT-002 Deconstructor
Time to deconstruct another boss' strategy! Har har har!
I love silly jokes. They make me... silly. But it's true -
XT-002 Deconstructor
is the subject of today's Strategist. Similarly to the other Ulduar bosses, not a whole lot is known XT, other than the fact that he is the last boss in the Siege of Ulduar, he is a mandatory fight, and his voice is the single reason people wipe on him.
XT-002 is located in the Scrapyard, between the Formation Grounds and the Antechamber of Ulduar. He is another one of
Mimiron
's creations, whom XT considers to be his father. Hence the boyish voice, the diligent exercise and dutiful guard. You need to defeat XT in order to proceed further in Ulduar, even if you skip the optional Ignis and Razroscale. The Deconstructor also has a hard mode.
And now, skipping over the break, let's take a look at He-who-does-not-drop-my-

Strategist: Ignis the Furnace Master
Hello, folks! My name is
Dr. Dorkins
*
not important. What is important is that I have finally put together an Ignis guide. Many of you probably have the old giant on farm, but for those who don't - and the future generations - here it is!
Ignis the Furnace Master
is fire giant, located in Ulduar. It is unknown whether he was there originally, or if he was brought by
Loken
(although I prefer the former), but one thing is certain - he works for
Yogg-Saron
just as much as Loken did. He is the one who crafted Razorscale's metal armor, and the one who created Kologarn, literally from a chunk of stone. You can find him in his Colossal Forge, on the opposite side of Razorscale.

Not intended to make fun of Dorkins. I love the opening :)

Strategist: Razorscale
Welcome back to the Strategist (or just "welcome", if it's your first time here)! A while ago I went over the
Flame Leviathan
fight in Ulduar. This week I hope to give you not only
Razorscale
(which you will read about in this issue), but
Ignis the Furnace Master
as well.
Razorscale is...was a Proto-drake better known under the name Veranus. She was a Broodmother among the Proto-drakes, and has been
Thorim
's loyal mount and friend for many years. Unfortunately when Loken defeated Thorim not that long ago, Veranus was captured, but not killed - Loken mentions that he has other plans for her. Now we know what they were - Ignis the Furnace Master crafted an armor of some sort for Veranus. Her scales were plated with steel as sharp as razor - hence the name. Now Razorscale lives in her Aerie in Ulduar, just between the Formation Grounds and the Scrapyard. She is an optional boss, but not a hard one.

Strategist: Flame Leviathan
Welcome to my new series in the Wowhead Blog - the
Strategist
!
Malgayne
has heard me, on many occasions, complain how the Overview section on all of the Ulduar bosses is just...not enough. They are all too complex to be explained by a single paragraph or by a list of their spells. This worked well with Naxxramas, because many people were familiar with the fights, and the actual fights were not overly complicated. Unfortunately, Ulduar is far from simple...
And this is how the Strategist was born! Partly inspired by
Discover
's
The Eye of Eternity: A Raid Overview
blog entry, party my own musing, the Strategist will present you with a strategy (or multiple strategies when applicable) for each of the bosses in the titanic complex... and other raids as well, if things go well. Hard Modes will be covered as well, but knowing that my own guild is still struggling with about half of them, those sections may be a little vague, or even missing.
But enough with the introductions! Read on, and learn about the first boss

The Crusader's Coliseum!
Well the updates are just coming fast and furious now. The latest update is about the newest tier in raid content—tier 9—to be released in Patch 3.2!
Apparently the next raid tier to come out will be the Crusaders' Coliseum. No info released yet on what the actual encounters will be like, but there have been a few interesting tidbits—apparently there will be four difficulty levels on this one: a normal and heroic 10-man, and a normal and heroic 25-man. They're unlocking one encounter at a time, one per week, Sunwell-style. They're ALSO creating a system (which has already generated some controversy) which limits the number of attempts you get on each boss per raid lockout, and increases the quality of rewards based on how many "tries" you have left when you down him.
Add in a new 5-man dungeon that rewards
Champion's Seal
s, and new Alliance-only and Horde-only skins for gear, and this one sounds ESPECIALLY interesting. The blue post is after the break!

Blizzard Introduces Ulduar Bosstiary
Usually I try not to post blogs that fall under the "News" category, because I feel they are more of admins' duty than mine. So unless I am specifically asked to post something, I read the news and leave somebody else to post them. As simple as that.
This time however, I could not just stand aside and watch. I had to post this, not only because it is related to Lore (which I love with all of my heart), but is also related to Ulduar, which I have grown to love as my own child. Blizzard have finally released a modified version of a bestiary - a
bosstiary
! It has a tiny bit of information about every Ulduar boss (and I expect to see more bosses coming soon), it has nice screenshots, and is all nice and beautiful. But don't let me waste any more of your time, see Blizzard's announcement for yourself!

Val'anyr, Hammer of the Ancients Kings
A little while ago we gave you a blog about the new
Legendary Healing Mace
. Now we feel ready to give you something more - the actual
Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings
!
As we feed on dataz, you will be fed on information. Here is what we know about the Hammer of the Ancient Kings:
Val'anyr is only usable by healing classes - druid, paladin, priest, shaman. No hunter loot!
You need 30
Fragment of Val'anyr
to start its short quest chain.
Fragments of Val'anyr have a chance to drop off all the bosses in
Ulduar
, on
Heroic difficulty only
. This means you can only obtain the Hammer from Ulduar-25.
In
Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings
, the final quest, you will be given an item called Shattered Pieces of Val'anyr. You will need to
throw
those in
Yogg-Saron
's mouth while he is casting
Deafening Roar
. You also need to fight and defeat Yogg-Saron with 3 or fewer Watchers assisting you.
Obtaining the Hammer of the Ancients Kings awards not only the legendary item, but the feat of strength [url=/?achieve

Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings

Raider Apprentice - Addons
You ever found desktop so full of icons that you almost need to use a search engine to find the folder you need? Or your desk/working place literally hidden by mountains of papers, hole-punchers, sticky notes, staplers, folders, binders, pens and other office tools? Well, things like that can happen in WoW too, and I am an unfortunate victim of Addon addiction.

Tier 8 Bonuses and Other Goodies
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the moment we have all been waiting for! The Tier8 armor sets for all the classes are no longer mystery. We now know how the sets look like, how they are named, but more importantly - what bonuses they give us!
Check the

But before we move to the sets, there is a little teaser I would like to toss in here. Remember how at the end of each Arena Season the top teams were rewarded a Nether Drake mount with 310% bonus speed? Well, the reward for the next Arena Season is going to be a

We have a very special
Patch Notes
page all prettied up with links, colors and tooltips, just for you! Check it out here:

This one has got some ESPECIALLY interesting changes. Not only do we have a brand new Gear Planner tool, we see the long-awaited implementation of the Dual Spec feature. There are also apparently some tweaks to the quest tracking system I'm interested to see—and mounts (or at least non-flying mounts) no longer vanish when they get wet!
Combine all of this with the class specific changes (Trap Launchers, anyone?) and I think we've got a hell of a patch coming up. Comments, questions, and thoughts are welcome!
PS: We are working round the clock to get all the new items and data up on the site for your perusal. Your new talent calculators should be ready shortly!

Official Blizzard Update: BlizzCon, Ulduar, and more
Once again, our friends at Blizzard have sent us a little note asking us to mention a few of their big announcements this week...and boy, there have been some big ones.
We have three different big announcements this week:
BlizzCon 2009 has been announced, and tickets will be available soon!
The 2009 World of Warcraft Arena Tournament is now open for registration!
The Ulduar sneak peek we linked
yesterday
is now up on the US site!

Ulduar Preview!
No matter whether you're Blizzard's number one fanboi, or you think they're the worst bunch of screwups you've ever paid $15 a month to—one thing can always be said for Blizzard: They know how to keep a secret. I fully intend to come up with a whole blog on this subject later.
So naturally, when Blizzard releases some info, all of us jump at the chance to go over it with a fine tooth comb. Let's get cracking, shall we? :D

Dual Spec Info Finally Released

For the benefit of our readers, I've included a quick summary of the more exciting points here on our blog. Check them out after the break, and leave your comments on how they did it (or how they

Elekktion Day
I'd like you to meet my good friend World of Warcraft. We've been friends for about two years now, off and on.
I could talk about all the positive qualities that my friend WoW has, that he's always available to hang out when I'm free, that he's got a bunch of other friends, invites me to parties, all those things.
More than anything though, I've always thought WoW was awesome because WoW

Philosophy of a Good Player
Recently I began digging around in various forums (both here at
Wowhead
and at other sites) trying to find a few good replies to the question, "What does it take to be a good DPS?"
Many players are still learning, or perhaps just started the game—and with over 11 million players, surely there are questions. My goal is to provide answers of a different color. Today I'm throwing out another (hopefully) thought-provoking entry. I originally planned it around damage dealers exclusively, but this entry can be applied to many roles (and in real life). And no, it was not conceived that way because I'm suffering from an influx of
Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3

WoW: The Schizophrenic MMO
ArgentSun
posted a comment
here
a little while ago, and it started to get me thinking.
I love WoW. It's clearly the most successful video game ever made. It's a beautifully tailored, wonderfully epic experience, that gets better each time I look at it. But ArgentSun's comment made me realize that aside from all the things we love about WoW, as a
game
, it's completely schizophrenic.
WoW, I would argue, is built around a blatant self-deception.
